Institute of Adult Education (IAE)

About Us

The Institute of Adult Education (IAE) was established in 1960 as part of Makerere University’s academic program, under the University of London. In 1963, the Institute was upgraded to a department and placed under the University of Dar es Salaam. Later, it became an independent institution established by Act of Parliament No. 12 of 1975 under the Ministry of National Education, which is currently the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. To date, the Institute has been a center for Training, Research and Education in the field of Adult Education for Certificate, Diploma and Degree courses and those studying post-primary education. Its services have been expanded to the grassroots level through regional centers established in 26 regions of Mainland Tanzania.
