About CCBRT

Comprehensive Community Based Rehabilitation in Tanzania (CCBRT) aims to be the preferred provider of accessible specialized health services in Africa and serves – as healthcare social enterprise and through development programmes – the community and the most vulnerable. Committed to prevent lifelong disabilities wherever possible, CCBRT is also engaged in extensive maternal and newborn healthcare (MNHC) activities including obstetric fistula repairs. Since 2005, CCBRT also provides community and centre based rehabilitation services from the “House of Hope” in Moshi, promoting inclusive development at all levels.

We are looking for an enthusiast Wheelchair Technologist to assist our seating clinic team in managing and coordinating the effective delivery of wheelchair, assistive devices and seating services.

The Role

As Wheelchair Technologist, you will:

  • Provide Seating Clinic Services
    • Lead the clinical assessment of clients.
    • Oversee individualized wheelchair prescription, fitting, and user training in collaboration with rehabilitation professionals.
    • Maintain accurate documentation of client assessments and follow-ups.
    • Ensure seating solutions.
    • Support interdisciplinary team members.
  • Ensure Wheelchair Production & Workshop Oversight
    • Manage the daily operations of the wheelchair workshop.
    • Lead the transition and upgrade of the workshop.
    • Supervise and build the capacity of technical staff.
    • Develop and implement standard operating procedures.
    • Collect, document, and share client success stories.
  • Mentor and Supervise
    • Mentor and supervise junior wheelchair technologists, technicians, students, and interns.
  • Ensure Service Coordination and Quality Assurance
  • Conduct Training and Capacity Building
  • Partnership and Compliance
    • Liaise with local and international wheelchair suppliers and partners.
    • Ensure compliance with national health policies, WHO guidelines, and donor requirements.

The Candidate

  • Diploma or Degree in Biomedical Engineering, Rehabilitation Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • Certification in wheelchair service provision (e.g., WHO Wheelchair Service Training – Basic, Intermediate, or Advanced Level).
  • Additional training in wheelchair design, manufacturing, or assistive technology is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in wheelchair production, rehabilitation technology, or assistive device service delivery.
  • Practical experience with wheelchair fitting, adjustments, repairs, and client-centered service provision.
  • Experience working with persons with disabilities, rehabilitation teams, or in a clinical/community-based rehabilitation setting.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including with persons with disabilities and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to evolving needs and technologies.
  • Pro-active and hands-on leader and team player.
  • Business Minded and Result Focused.
