JOB TITLE: HEAD OF COACH EDUCATION & RESEARCH
Purpose / Summary:
The Coach Education and Research will lead the strategic design, delivery, and continuous improvement of the BFA’s national coach education system. The role ensures that coaching programmes meet CAF and FIFA standards and support the technical development goals of Botswana football. The position aims to build coaching capacity nationwide, enhance coaching quality across all levels, and align coaching practices with the national playing and coaching philosophy.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Report directly to the Technical Director on all issues to do with coach education
* Develop, implement, and oversee the national coach education framework and curriculum.
* Organise, coordinate, and evaluate CAF/FIFA accredited coaching courses and CPD workshops.
* Identify, train, and supervise coach educators, and assessors to ensure high delivery standards.
* Collaborate with regional football structures, clubs, and stakeholders to promote widespread access to coaching programmes.
* Prepare and manage annual coach education plans, budgets, reports, and ensure alignment with BFA technical strategy.
* Evaluate and continuously improve the effectiveness and impact of coach education programmes.
* Liaise with CAF, FIFA, and other relevant bodies to ensure compliance and technical collaboration.
* Support the integration of national playing and coaching philosophy into coaching programmes.
* Promote ethics, safeguarding, and professionalism within the coaching community.
* Represent BFA in local, regional, and international forums related to coach education.
* Develop e-Learning platforms for coaches.
* Provide the required aftercare for all coach education courses including the responsibility for workshops, refresher courses and seminars.
* Create and maintain a data base for all coaches and coach educators in Botswana.
* Ensure the technical staff of the teams participating in the domestic competitions hold appropriate valid CAF coaching license within the club licensing regulations.
* Lead research projects on coaching methods, player development, learning methodologies and trends in football.
* Gather, analyse and apply research findings to enhance the design and delivery of coach education programmes.
* Develop systems for monitoring and evaluating coaching outcomes, including data collection and reporting.
* Establish partnerships with academic institutions, CAF, FIFA and other organisations to strengthen research capacity.
* Produce reports, publications and presentations to share insights with stakeholders and inform policy and practice.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
* CAF A Licence (or equivalent highest-level coaching qualification recognised by CAF/FIFA).
* Bachelor’s degree in sports science, physical education, coaching, or related field (Master’s degree is an advantage).
* At least 5 years of experience in coach education, coach development, or football technical leadership.
* Proven experience delivering or managing CAF/FIFA accredited coaching courses.
* Strong knowledge of coach education frameworks, curriculum design, and adult learning principles.
