About Us

The origin of the word Chunya comes from a small stream that was near the first headquarters of the district of

   Chunya. The stream occurred mainly during the rainy season (kifuku) and this is due to the climate of Chunya which is naturally 

of drought. The original tribes of the inhabitants of Chunya are the Guruka, the Kimbu, who mostly lived in the areas of 

             the Kipembawe and the Wabungu who lived in the Songwe river basin, but within these three tribes there were tribes
