About Us

The Tanzania Library Services Board (TLSB) is a Public Institution under the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. The institution was established by Act of Parliament No. 39 of 1963 and was known as the Tanganyika Library Services Board.

In 1975, the Act was amended where a new Act of Parliament No. 6 of 1975 was created and led to the name of the Institution changing from the Tanganyika Library Services Board to the Tanzania Library Services Board.

The main objective of the creation of TLSB was to provide opportunities for all citizens, without any discrimination, to use Public Libraries to obtain education, knowledge and various information that will help them in getting rid of poverty and ignorance as well as to find entertainment and maintain culture.
