About Us

UNDP is the UN’s global development network, advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help build a better life. UNDP started its operations in Tanzania after signing of Standard Basic Assistance Agreement (SBAA) with the Government in 30th May 1978.

The United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) – 2022-2027 outlines a coherent plan of action and enables a coordinated UN response to contribute more efficiently and effectively to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the national development goals of the third National Five-Year Development Plan (FYDP III) and the 2021-2026 Zanzibar Development Plan (ZADEP).

The framework also aims to contribute towards achieving Tanzania’s regional commitments and aspirations, including the East Africa Community Vision 2050 and the Africa Agenda 2063.

Country Programme Document (CPD) 2022-2027 has also taken into consideration global development agendas such as Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that were adopted in September of 2015. In this CPD, UNDP will contribute to three UNSCDF outcomes where it has comparative advantage and has made considerable investments. The outcomes are: i) Prosperity ii) and Planet iii) Enabling Environment. UNDP will address the People outcome of the UNSDCF by integrating relevant aspects within the prosperity outcome. UNDP will continue to invest in its broad partnership networks including the UN family to implement the CPD.

In view of this, the overall focus for UNDP in Tanzania is to support the Government of Tanzania to improve lives of the people through strategic programmatic areas of inclusive democratic governance,  inclusive economic growth and sustainable livelihoods and environment sustainability, climate change and resilience.
