Job Purpose

The Business Development Associate will drive revenue growth and customer acquisition for the branch, ensuring achievement of annual premium targets. The role reports directly to the Branch Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the branch manager in ensuring a 90% renewal rate.

  • Drive top-line growth through intermediaries: agents, banks, brokers, and sales force executives (SFEs).

  • Analyze branch performance and propose initiatives for growth.

  • Drive achievement of sales revenue targets across distribution outlets.

  • Conduct spot checks on agency and SFE productivity to ensure compliance.

  • Oversee compliance with licensing and renewal requirements for agents.

  • Act as the primary contact for agents and SFEs, resolving queries and concerns promptly.

  • Coordinate timely premium collections and commission payments with Finance.

  • Promote cross-selling of existing and new products via agents, banks, brokers, and SFEs.

  • Monitor and review intermediaries’ performance bi-weekly; appraise agents and SFEs.

  • Recruit, deploy, and supervise agencies and SFEs, setting up new distribution networks.

  • Ensure continuous training of SFEs in collaboration with branch and training managers.

  • Maintain TIRA compliance for agents and SFEs (licenses, qualifications, etc.).

  • Enforce company policies, promptly address audit issues, and take corrective actions.

  • Collect and analyze market intelligence to strengthen competitive advantage.

  • Prepare weekly and monthly production reports.

  • Support claims processing by coordinating documentation, updates, and client communication.

  • Undertake initial underwriting of SFE business before forwarding to the underwriting team.

  • Supervise and utilize sales tools to maximize agent and SFE productivity.

  • Perform additional duties assigned by management.

  • Deliver on KPIs as defined in the departmental balanced scorecard and personal scorecard.

Knowledge, Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field (Insurance specialization preferred)

  • Professional qualification in Insurance (COP, CII – an added advantage)

  • 1–2 years’ sales experience (insurance sector preferred)

  • Strong understanding of insurance concepts and industry practices

  • Proven ability to manage and sustain banking/partner relationships
