HEAD OF GOALKEEPER COACHING

JOB TITLE: HEAD OF GOALKEEPER COACHING – JUNIOR NATIONAL TEAMS

Purpose of the Role:

To design, implement and lead the goalkeeper training programme for Botswana’s junior national teams, ensuring goalkeepers receive age-appropriate, modern, and progressive coaching. The role supports the long-term development of elite goalkeepers and aligns all work with the BFA’s technical strategy and national playing philosophy.

Key Responsibilities:

Goalkeeper Development
* Reports directly to the Technical Director (Through Head of Youth Development).
* Develop and deliver structured goalkeeper coaching programmes for all junior national teams (U17, U20, U23).
* Monitor and assess goalkeeper performance during training camps, matches, and tournaments.
* Prepare individual development plans for national team goalkeepers based on technical, tactical, physical and psychological needs.
* Integrate modern coaching methods and technology (video analysis, data tracking) into goalkeeper training.

Talent Identification & Pathway

* Collaborate with regional coaches, club coaches and BFA scouts to identify and track talented young goalkeepers nationwide.
* Support the creation of a clear goalkeeper development pathway linking grassroots, youth, and elite levels.

Coach Education & Mentoring

* Mentor and support goalkeeper coaches working in junior national teams and youth clubs.
* Contribute to BFA coach education by delivering workshops or sharing expertise specific to goalkeeper development.

Collaboration & Administration

* Work closely with head coaches and technical staff of junior national teams to ensure goalkeeping is integrated into overall team strategy.* Maintain detailed reports, video analyses, and performance data for all national team goalkeepers.
* Represent the BFA’s goalkeeper programme in regional or CAF/FIFA events as required.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

* CAF Goalkeeping Coaching Licence (or equivalent advanced goalkeeper qualification).
* CAF A licence (minimum) or higher.
* At least 3-5 years’ experience coaching goalkeepers at youth elite or national team level.
* Proven record in developing youth goalkeepers in a structured programme.
* Strong understanding of modern goalkeeper coaching trends and player development.

* Expertise in modern, age-appropriate goalkeeper coaching techniques.
* Ability to plan and deliver engaging and progressive goalkeeper training sessions.
* Player development and talent identification skills.
* Communication and mentoring skills to support young athletes and coaches.
* Analytical skills including use of video and data to support coaching.
* Organisational and reporting skills.
* Commitment to ethics, safeguarding, and inclusion.
