HEAD OF PRODUCTION
Makoro Chickens is a chicken production business based at Makoro Farms, 18km south of Palapye. We are looking to employ a Head of Production to join our team. The role entails:
Managing the company’s chicken production and abattoir operations;
Prioritizing tasks and budgeting the allocation of machinery, workers and inputs in order to ensure the smooth functioning of the chicken production and abattoir operations;
Ensuring efficient collaboration and coordination of the chicken production and abattoir operations.
Candidates with 3-5 years of experience in a similar role, with a minimum of 3 years in a senior management position are encouraged to apply.
Reporting Structure
The Head of Production will report to the Managing Director and will be responsible for the supervision of Chicken production and Abattoir employees. The individual will be expected to interact with the company’s customers, suppliers and regulators.
Chicken Production
- Ensuring that the chicken houses are well maintained and not prone to diseases;
- Ensuring that chicken feed and other supplies are replenished as and when required;
- Ensuring compliance with biosecurity, safety and hygiene standards;
- Managing the quality and quantity of birds to be raised on the farm;
- Ensuring that inputs like stock feeds, vaccinations, water and bedding are appropriately stocked;
- Ensuring adequate requirements for equipment such as heaters, feeders and drinkers;
- Assisting in evaluating suppliers for equipment and inputs and establishing work relationships through formal meetings and site visits;
- Ensuring that records are maintained for materials, chickens, and equipment;
- Ensuring that production chicken houses and equipment are maintained in good working order;
- Ensuring that disinfection and fumigation procedures are followed on a regular basis;
- Managing and ensuring that chicken production targets are achieved;
- Preparing and presenting regular chicken production reports to Management;
- Organizing and monitoring waste management.
Abattoir Operations
- Implementing and controlling production schedules for the abattoir;
- Ensuring that the abattoir equipment is maintained in good working order;
- Ensuring compliance with food safety regulations, quality control standards and bio-security in the operations of the abattoir;
- Developing meat quality objectives and implementing quality control tracking programs to meet these quality objectives;
- Tracking production and quality of meat products to detect and correct problems;
- Developing standard operating procedures and regularly reviewing them;
- Updating procedures in line with changes in health standards and other regulatory requirements;
- Providing protective clothing for chicken house workers and visitors to the abattoir;
- Preparing and presenting regular abattoir production reports to Management;
- Working closely with the sales and logistics team to ensure smooth processing of sales orders and chicken products delivery.
Experience
- 3 to 5 years of experience in poultry production with at least 3 years of experience at management level
- Education Level
- Diploma or degree in agriculture OR 5 years of equivalent education and experience
- Knowledge
- Knowledge of chicken production and abattoir quality systems and standards and bio-security
- Software
- MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
