The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT), Arusha branch, is inviting applications for an Individual Contractor – Librarian. This temporary role focuses on cataloguing, managing, and maintaining the library’s collection of books and other materials.
Location: Arusha, Tanzania
Contract Duration: Immediate start for 40 days (5 days per week)

Role Overview
The Librarian will work in the Mechanism Archives and Records Section (MARS), Library Unit, supporting the organization, cataloguing, and preservation of the library collection. This includes registering new materials, shelving books, assisting in acquisitions, and conducting inventory tasks to maintain accurate records of library holdings.
Key Responsibilities

Register newly acquired library materials in the library management system.

Catalog, index, and classify books and other documents according to international standards.

Assign call numbers, print labels, and affix them to library materials.

Shelf books and materials according to their classification.

Assist in selecting new books and materials for acquisition.

Conduct inventory and take stock of the library collection.

Perform loans, reference services, and other library support tasks.
Qualifications & Experience

High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree in Library or Information Science is desirable.

Minimum 5 years of experience in library work, information management, or a related field.

At least 3 years experience in cataloguing, classification, and metadata management for print and electronic resources.

Proficiency with integrated library management systems or similar databases.

Experience with UN or international organizations is an advantage.

Fluency in English (required).

Remuneration & Other Information

Daily rate: Approximately 250,000 TZS.

The position is locally recruited and limited to the IRMCT Arusha branch.

Contract extensions depend on mandate continuation and funding availability.
