INADES-Formation Tanzania (IFTz) is an autonomous NGO and part of the INADES-Formation network operating across Africa. Established in Dodoma in 1989, IFTz has grown to become a leading organization supporting rural development, agroforestry, nutrition, climate change adaptation, gender equality, and inclusive agricultural practices.

IFTz invites qualified, proactive, and committed individuals to apply for the position of Managing Director, responsible for overall organizational leadership, strategic direction, and representation.

Position: Managing Director

Duty Station: Dodoma, Tanzania
Employment Type: Full-time, Contractual
Reports to: Board of Directors

Position Overview

The Managing Director will act as the Chief Executive Officer of IFTz, providing strategic leadership and ensuring that all programs and operations are aligned with the organization’s Vision, Mission, Values, and Strategic Goals. This role requires oversight of programs, governance, financial management, team leadership, and external representation.

Key Responsibilities

A. Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and implement strategic and operational plans.

  • Ensure programs align with organizational mission and national development priorities.

  • Advise the Board on opportunities, risks, and emerging trends.

B. Governance and Reporting

  • Ensure compliance with statutory and legal requirements.

  • Serve as Secretary to the Board, providing timely reports and documentation.

  • Implement policies approved by the Board.

C. Program Development & Management

  • Oversee planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of programs.

  • Ensure timely delivery and quality of projects.

  • Promote innovation, learning, and continuous improvement within the organization.

D. Human Resources & Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and manage the management team and staff.

  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performance culture.

  • Ensure staff development, performance, and well-being.

E. Finance & Resource Mobilization

  • Prepare annual budgets and ensure proper financial management.

  • Mobilize funds and resources from donors, partners, and income-generating initiatives.

  • Ensure compliance with financial and donor reporting requirements.

F. Representation & Networking

  • Represent IFTz with stakeholders, government agencies, donors, and media.

  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships and networks.

  • Promote the organization’s visibility and influence.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Master’s degree in Development Studies, Public Administration, Social Sciences, Management, or related fields.

  • Minimum 7–10 years of progressive experience in NGO leadership, development work, or management.

  • Demonstrated expertise in strategic planning, resource mobilization, and team management.

  • Strong knowledge of governance, accountability, and development policies.

Key Competencies & Attributes

  • High integrity and professionalism.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Fluent in English and Kiswahili.

  • Familiarity with participatory development approaches.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

  • Knowledge of the local and regional development context.

Terms of Service

  • Contract duration: 3 years, with a 1-year probation period.

  • Renewal subject to satisfactory performance.

  • Age limit: Not above 48 years.
