Role Overview

The Mechanical & Refrigeration Engineer will oversee the operation, maintenance, installation, and optimization of mechanical and cold chain equipment at Yalelo’s production site. The role includes team supervision, preventive maintenance, equipment commissioning, and ensuring operational efficiency while upholding safety and food quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Management

• Lead, mentor, and manage mechanical & refrigeration teams.

• Provide technical guidance, training, and capacity building for team members.

• Coordinate with stakeholders, engineering sections, and end users.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting

• Plan and execute preventive maintenance schedules.

• Respond to breakdowns and troubleshoot faults.

• Monitor, inspect, and ensure quality standards for maintenance work.

Installation & Commissioning

• Lead installation, commissioning, and optimization of equipment.

• Collaborate with consultants, vendors, and internal teams for projects.

• Conduct feasibility studies, prepare technical specifications, and engineering drawings.

• Ensure safety reviews, operational checks, and warranty compliance during commissioning.

Innovation & Improvement

• Implement preventative measures to enhance safety, sustainability, and productivity.

• Drive problem-solving initiatives and process improvements.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Production Engineering.

• Minimum 4 years’ relevant experience in the food processing industry.

• Proven expertise with industrial machinery and cold chain equipment (blast freezers, reefers, chillers, ice-making machines).

• Advanced knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration systems, mechanical skills, and troubleshooting abilities.

• Leadership experience with a track record of managing teams effectively.

• Knowledge of freezer electrical/refrigeration circuits and scale calibration/repair is an advantage.
