Job Purpose
The Merchant Advisor is responsible for driving the Merchant Acquiring Business profitably, in line with card schemes, regulations, and internal policies. The role focuses on maintaining positive merchant relationships while working closely with branches, zonal sales managers, and acquiring business management to achieve business growth.
Key Responsibilities
Merchant Acquisition & Sales:

Recruit and drive merchant acquiring business via POS, E-commerce, and QR codes.

Upsell and cross-sell bank products and services to merchants and internal teams.

Meet sales objectives and track budget versus actual performance.
Merchant Management & Support:

Conduct merchant training, orientation, and servicing activities; maintain records.

Perform 360° checks on merchant activities and recommend strategies for portfolio growth.

Handle merchant queries promptly and maintain soft copies of all interactions.

Conduct site visits, compliance checks, and ensure devices are operating correctly.
Portfolio & Risk Management:

Verify merchant applications, perform screening (MATCH system), and manage contract sign-offs.

Negotiate merchant commissions per bank pricing matrix.

Manage fraudulent or terminated merchants, ensuring due process and reporting.

Oversee dispute resolution and maintain positive merchant relationships.
Reporting & Administration:

Submit weekly/monthly sales and pipeline reports to Zonal Management and Acquiring Business Management.

Maintain merchant documentation, including marketing materials and consumables.

Coordinate merchant workshops at the zonal level to ensure best practices are followed.
Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, or related field.

Minimum 3 years’ experience in banking, specifically within acquiring business.

Strong background in Card Schemes.

Business acumen, negotiation, portfolio management, and sales skills.

Excellent communication, planning, and analytical skills.

Proficiency in computer applications.
