The Role
The National Finance Officer supports the stewardship of WFP’s resources through budget monitoring, forecasting, reporting, and financial controls. The role also contributes to administrative and HR functions, ensuring efficient fund management and effective assistance delivery.
This position reports to the Head of Support Services and is based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Key Accountabilities (not all-inclusive)

Contribute to country-level financial planning aligned with WFP’s regional/global strategy.

Monitor budgets and carry out forecasting for new and ongoing projects.

Report on financial status and project outcomes in compliance with corporate governance.

Perform bank reconciliations, disbursements, receivables clearance, and cash management.

Ensure timely monthly financial closures.

Provide administrative services, including contractor coordination and cost control.

Support HR functions such as benefits administration, recruitment, and training.

Prepare accurate and timely reports to support management decision-making.

Contribute to improvements in financial policies, systems, and procedures.

Support periodic risk and internal control assessments.

Guide and supervise junior staff and provide technical advice.

Represent the unit in meetings with UN agencies, banks, and other partners.

Contribute to WFP’s emergency preparedness and rapid response capacity.

Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
-
Advanced university degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
-
Or, first university degree in the same fields with additional relevant work experience plus membership in a recognized professional accountancy body (e.g., ACCA, CPA, ICPAR).
Experience
-
Experience performing financial analysis at national/operational level.
-
Experience managing financial transactions and reporting.
Language
-
Fluency in English and in the duty station’s language (Swahili).
