Job Summary

A vacancy has arisen for a full-time Optometrist to join the dynamic and growing optometry team at Just Eyes Optometrists, based at WestGate Mall in Gaborone.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated practitioner, keen to develop their clinical skills and explore specialist interests in innovative and complex optometry practice. This position is open to both experienced and newly qualified optometrists.

Main Duties of the Job

The successful applicant will have opportunities to gain hands-on experience in a wide range of specialist optometry clinics, including:

  • Medical contact lens fitting

  • Low vision assessments

  • Complex adult and paediatric refractions

  • Paediatric dispensing

  • Collaborative clinics with ophthalmology and orthoptists

You will also be expected to contribute to clinical audit and support teaching and training within the department.

Job Description Highlights

  • Full-time position (Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 5:30pm; occasional weekend clinics)

Person Specification

Qualifications – Essential:

  • BSc (Hons) Optometry or MSc Optometry (or equivalent)

  • Registered with the Botswana Health Professions Council (BHPC)

Desirable:

  • 2:1 or higher academic degree

  • Postgraduate clinical qualifications

  • Member of the Botswana Optometry Association

Experience – Essential:

  • Clinical experience in optometric practice

Desirable:

  • Experience with adults and children with complex needs

  • Experience in low vision, specialist contact lenses, or complex refraction

  • Familiarity with multidisciplinary teams and clinical research

Skills – Essential:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to explain complex clinical information with empathy

  • High attention to detail and excellent clinical record keeping

  • Willingness to learn and work as part of a collaborative team

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with electronic patient records and clinical databases
