Location: Tanzania Country Office
Reports to: Country Director
Supervises: Senior Procurement Officer, IT Officer

Mission of the Department:
To ensure a high-performing Tanzania Country Office with effective operational, financial, and administrative systems that support WWF’s conservation goals.

Role Overview:

The Head of Operations will lead and manage all operational, administrative, procurement, logistics, and IT functions of WWF Tanzania. Working closely with the Country Director, this role ensures efficient processes, compliance, and smooth day-to-day operations while supporting conservation programs across the country.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership to the Operations function, including IT, Procurement, Logistics, Administration, and field offices.

  • Review and improve operational processes, systems, and performance; report findings to the Senior Management Team.

  • Oversee visas, work permits, and residence permits for expatriate staff, as well as support international travel documentation.

  • Manage contracts, lease agreements, procurement processes, and timely payments.

  • Coordinate with Finance for accurate project budgeting and costing of goods and services.

  • Liaise with government authorities and legal advisors to ensure compliance with laws and regulations.

  • Implement and maintain systems, policies, and procedures for asset management, including vehicles and office equipment.

  • Ensure proper procurement practices, record-keeping, and inventory management across all sites.

  • Provide IT strategic leadership, network administration, database management, and IT security.

  • Supervise and appraise operations, logistics, and IT staff to maintain a high-performing team.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Social Sciences, or related field.

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in a similar role within an international NGO.

  • Excellent administrative, managerial, and time management skills.

  • Experience working with governmental offices and regulatory compliance.

  • Fluency in English; excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office; knowledge of Oracle ESP is an advantage.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Proven leadership and team management abilities.

  • Skilled in contract negotiation, procurement, and operational policy implementation.

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks, take initiative, and work independently under tight deadlines.

  • Vocational interest in nature conservation is highly valued.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills for networking with communities, government, NGOs, and WWF partners.

Working Relationships:

  • Internal: TCO staff, Operations & Administration teams, program staff.

  • External: Government ministries, NGOs, business community, and other stakeholders.
