LABORATORY MANAGER
Introduction
A vacancy exists for a Laboratory Manager in the Pathology Unit at Life Gaborone Private Hospital, reporting to the Hospital Manager. The position is responsible for serving patients and doctors by providing medical laboratory diagnostic and therapeutic information, products, and services.
Critical Outputs

Provides medical laboratory diagnostic and therapeutic information, products, and services.

Grows the business through market assessment and implementation of new programs, tests, methods, instrumentation, and procedures.

Maintains adequate equipment, staffing levels, productivity, and quality service levels.

Maintains professional and technical knowledge.

Implements process improvement: standard operating procedures and LEAN principles to reduce waste.

Resolves problems by consulting with pathologists, other laboratory managers, technical coordinators, laboratory directors, physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals; attends committee meetings.

Bills for services by completing requests for service, monitoring the billed unit, providing the billing office with service codes, and overseeing the submission of bills to funders; manages contracts with companies and feeder labs.

Manages customer relations.

Implements and maintains the quality system that governs the laboratory and service components, ensuring compliance with Good Laboratory Practice and SADCAS accreditation requirements.

Skilled in: Managing Processes, Presenting Technical Information, Management Proficiency, Equipment Maintenance, Training, Analyzing Information, Information Sharing, Quality Focus, Clinical Lab Testing, and Technical Understanding.

Requirements

Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (Master’s degree is an added advantage)

Preferably 5 to 8 years working experience, including 3 to 5 years supervisory experience in a relevant pathology laboratory environment
