Role Description
- Acquire and Grow new customers via personal sales visits, using face – to – face contact to provide a personal service. Develop a monthly customer call cycle. Conversion of qualified leads into customers as well as developing and maintaining existing accounts (retention & development).
- Act as the customers’ main point of contact by liaising closely with the relevant departments within DHL to ensure that queries, problems or issues are dealt with appropriately.
- Make decisions during negotiation with customers related to volume and discount levels as well as additional services offered.
- Discount according to agreed guidelines.
Minimum Requirements
Education & Experience
- Bachelor Degree /Tertiary Education or related work experience in related discipline and 2 years of experience in a related field.

In this Field Sales Specialist position
- Develop new business for overall sales development of DHL Global Forwarding Sales & Marketing function.
- Achievement oriented.
- Successfully delivering on both target and high customer satisfaction measure.
Customers – New & Existing.
- Develop and maintain strong existing customer relations and loyalty through ensuring customer satisfaction.
- Respond to customer enquiries/complaints.
- Manages a defined portfolio of potential customers and wins them for a lasting business relationship with DGF.
- Seeks and prospects for BC targets to win new customers generally in the applicable Net Sales amount per annum.
- Plans and manages medium to large – sized Business Customers.
- Builds rapport and trust with customers by being informed about customer’s business and the market.
- Recommends solutions based on customer needs by using industry knowledge.
- Is responsible for closing business by connecting a customer’s needs to a DHL solution by offering value to the clients supply chain.
- Uses networks within the various Sales channels within DPDHL to collaborate on customers, marketing strategies and offers a full supply chain of services to service customer needs.
- Collects relevant customer information for the RFI/RFP/RFQ and prepares documents for customer implementation in order to ensure proper operational handover and implementation to meet customer expectations.
Sales Manager
- Highlights to Sales Manager on observations of market dynamics for example competitors’ behavioral patterns.
Other Departments
- Maintain and support interdepartmental relationships.
- Collaborate with colleagues across the organization to achieve shared goals.
Business Development
- Develops sales plan/strategy/activities to achieve target budgets.
- Responsible for conducting high quality presentation of the entire range of standardized products to customers.
- Develop target lists of new business and continuously review and update.
- Establish and present customized offers to customers.
- Negotiate with customers on contractual terms of service provision that is aligned to corporate sales policy and procedures.
- Adhere to approved credit limits granted to customers and enforce previously agreed payment terms.
Business Performance & Results
- Prepare and realize planned sales calls.
- Responsible for product targets.
- Responsible for budgeted growth in new and additional business.
- Secure/collect all necessary information to assess credit worthiness of potential customer. Support receivables functions.
- Ensure Customer commitments are clearly communicated to respective operations – clear business set up process.
- Report activities, quotes, sales calls and other information through CRM
- Perform roles and responsibilities in compliance with Company Policies, Procedures and Instructions.

- Ensure a sound understanding of, show knowledge of and be strongly conversant in our industry workings.
- A good working knowledge of airfreight, ocean freight, road freight, customs clearing, imports, exports and international trade.
- Relevant experience in sales, business development and logistics.
- Advanced multilingual skills preferred, i.e. English.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills.
- Results oriented
- Minimum 3-5 years within the transport, logistics or freight forwarding industry (or similar service industry).
- Experience in Freight Forwarding and Customs Clearing sales environment with proven record advantageous.

In this LCL Business Development Specialist position
- Executes procedures in the administration of the LCL Development process from end to end.
- Be the LCL product expert to support the business with sales/contracting/proposals best practices and capabilities including interaction and onsite visits with customers.
- Drive Area solution product development and salesforce/ lead generation enhancement initiatives based on Kenya + East Africa customer / market requirements as well as productivity improvement initiatives.
- Provides input on service elements and drives network development from country perspective.
- Maps and profiles customers in the key trade lanes.
- Prioritizes top customers in the lanes based on their business potential.
- Maps developments with each customer and devise action plans.
- Ensures due attention to new opportunity.
- Actively participates with the product teams (origin and destination) to understand, discuss and develop solutions to facilitate target growth on the key trade lanes.
- Ensures RFQ/RFPs are received and attended on time and support RFQ teams for successful closure.

- Creates business case notes for every win and sends them along with the SOP to the respective regions’ product managers.

- Resolving customer issues.
- Conducting market research and analysing industry trends.
- Collaborating with the Sales team and Product Head.
Coordination
- Origin/destination LCL shipment coordination
- Monthly inbound –Outbound volume review.
- Own box service utilization.
- Generating local tariff for Sales.
- Cooperation with sales.
- Revamp the procedures in place and make them more efficient.
- Increase the number of nominations and routings.
- Managing the launch of new services
- Analyzing and documenting the product development process
- Leading internal and external audits of the products
- Building and maintaining customer relationships
Co-loader/CFS operator
- preferred vendors – Regional tariff maintenance.
- Review of CFS agreement benefits (vendor stats).
- Own box/ co-load Cost control.
- Carrier selection as per service requirements
Tender Management
- Inside pricing
- RFQ management with OCC
- Maintenance /update of MTS
- Rate procurement review
- Support with market intelligence

- Knowledge and knowhow of LCL box deconsolidation will be an added advantage.
- 2- 3 years related experience.
- Must have a matric.
