Management and Development for Health (MDH) is a leading Tanzanian non-profit, non-governmental organization committed to addressing public health challenges through evidence-based programs and research. MDH’s priority areas include:
- Communicable diseases (such as HIV, Tuberculosis, and Malaria)
- Non-communicable diseases (NCDs)
- Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH)
- Nutrition
- Health systems strengthening
MDH operates in strong partnership with the Government of Tanzania, especially the Ministries of Health and the President’s Office-Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG), as well as local and international funding partners, academic and research institutions, civil society, faith-based, and community-based organizations.
Board Vacancies Announcement
MDH is inviting applications from highly qualified, committed, and experienced individuals to fill three (3) vacant positions on its Board of Directors. This is a voluntary, non-remunerated position, offering an opportunity to contribute to the strategic direction and oversight of one of the country’s most respected health-focused NGOs.
Role Summary
Board Members serve a critical governance and advisory function, ensuring that MDH remains aligned with its mission, vision, and strategic priorities. They provide guidance and oversight to the Senior Management Team (SMT), uphold the highest standards of accountability and transparency, and ensure long-term organizational sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic direction and contribute to the development, monitoring, and review of MDH’s strategic plan.
- Ensure compliance with legal, financial, and ethical standards and governance best practices.
- Review and approve budgets, financial reports, and policies to ensure responsible resource stewardship.
- Advise on risk management, organizational performance, and partnership development.
- Participate in board and committee meetings, and support special initiatives or events.
- Promote MDH’s reputation and sustainability through networking and advocacy.
- Share expertise in relevant fields to inform programmatic and operational decisions.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
- Demonstrated expertise in any of the following: Public Health, Healthcare Management, Health Research, Community Development, Finance, Law, Human Resources, Public Policy, or related disciplines.
- Prior experience serving on boards or governance bodies, preferably within non-profit, development, or health-related sectors.
- Experience in resource mobilization for non-profit organizations in Tanzania.
- Strong strategic thinking, analytical skills, and leadership experience.
- Knowledge of financial oversight, including budgeting and risk assessment.
- Commitment to ethical leadership, transparency, and teamwork.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree or higher in a relevant field (e.g., Public Health, Community Development, Business Administration, Law, Finance).
- Professional certification in governance, nonprofit leadership, or health management.
- A well-established professional network in health or development sectors.
Time Commitment
- Attendance at quarterly board meetings (physical or virtual).
- Participation in board committees as assigned.
- Availability for additional consultations, special events, or urgent matters when needed.
