Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented professional to oversee the procurement, inventory management, and logistics of supplies for our safari lodges and camps. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the successful candidate will ensure high-quality supplies, cost-effective purchasing, and efficient logistics while maintaining the exceptional standards expected in the safari industry. This role requires fluency in English, strong computer skills, and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Procurement: Source and negotiate with suppliers to procure high-quality products, including food, beverages, and other supplies, that meet the unique needs of safari operations, ensuring cost-effectiveness and adherence to budget.
- Inventory Management: Oversee stock levels, minimize waste, and ensure timely restocking of supplies across multiple lodge and camp locations.
- Logistics Coordination: Manage the transportation and delivery of goods to remote safari locations, ensuring timely and safe delivery with correct packaging of items to maintain quality during transport, despite challenging environments.
- Supplier Relationships: Build and maintain strong relationships with local and international suppliers to ensure consistent quality and reliability.
- Supplier Vetting: Ensuring all suppliers are correctly vetted and supplier database is kept up to date.
- Quality Control: Conduct rigorous quality checks on all perishable items to ensure compliance with health, safety, and quality standards, maintaining the highest standards for guest satisfaction.
- Price Monitoring: Constantly monitor and compare prices of alternative products to identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality.
- Budget Management: Develop and manage procurement budgets, track expenses, and implement cost-saving initiatives in collaboration with the CFO.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with kitchen team, lodge coaches, and other departments to align procurement and logistics with operational needs.
- Data Management: Utilise computer systems for inventory tracking, procurement records, and logistics planning, ensuring accurate and up-to-date documentation.
- Reporting: Provide regular updates and reports on procurement activities, budget adherence, and logistics performance.
Requirements
- Experience: Minimum of 4 years of experience in procurement, logistics, or supply chain management, preferably in the hospitality or safari industry.
- Language Skills: Fluent in written and spoken English, with excellent communication skills to liaise with suppliers, team, and management.
- Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Education: Diploma or degree in supply chain management, logistics, hospitality management, or a related field. (essential)
- Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with the safari or hospitality industry and its unique operational challenges is highly desirable.
