SENIOR SPECIALIST – SOURCING & CONTRACTING
BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:
To lead, manage, and execute the sourcing and contracting process for goods and services, ensuring value-for-money procurement, compliance with company policies and relevant legislation, while supporting operational efficiency and strategic supplier relationships within the mining environment.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Your key accountabilities include:
- Developing, implementing and managing sourcing strategies that align with operational and project requirements.
- Leading end-to-end procurement processes including market analysis,
supplier identification,
tendering, evaluation,
negotiations, and contract finalisation.
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating high-value and high-risk contracts, service level agreements and framework agreements in collaboration with legal and technical teams.
- Managing contract lifecycle from inception to close-out, including amendments, renewals, and performance management.
- Identifying and driving opportunities for cost reduction, risk mitigation, and value creation through strategic sourcing
- Maintaining a sourcing pipeline and procurement calendar for critical categories and contracts.
- Ensuring compliance with procurement policies, procedures, corporate governance, and relevant legislation (eg. PPADB, Mines and Minerals Act).
- Facilitating supplier due diligence, onboarding and performance reviews.
- Engaging with internal stakeholders (Engineering, Operations, Finance, Legal, etc.) to align sourcing plans with business needs.
- Providing training and guidance to procurement officers and end-users on sourcing best practices.
- Monitoring supplier market trends and recommend strategic adjustments to sourcing models.
- Tracking and reporting on targets achieved against the business model.
- Ensuring that cost initiatives and benefits, China sourcing and spend, Local supply plans and Procurement and Contracts plans are kept up to date.
- Ensuring procurement best practises are achieved and sole source requests are kept to a minimum.
- Training
and mentorship of
subordinates to ensure
development and guidance where necessary.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Commercial Law, Business Administration or related field
- Minimum 5-7 years’ experience in strategic sourcing, contract management, or procurement, with at least 3 years in a senior or specialist role
- Professional certification in procurement (e.g., CIPS Level 5/6, CPM, CPSM) is an added advantage
- Membership of a recognised procurement or supply chain body (e.g., CIPS, SAPICS) is desirable
- Experience in a mining or large industrial environment
- Proven record in managing complex tendering and contracting processes
- Experience in negotiating with multinational suppliers and local contractors
- Exposure to contract disputes and resolution strategies
