Social Media Manager
Role Summary
As the Social Media Manager at Brave Media, you will lead the execution of our digital storytelling strategy across various platforms (Instagram, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Threads, TikTok, and Telegram). You will curate high-impact content, craft compelling captions aligned with our tone, and foster audience engagement to drive Sema Ukweli’s mission forward.
This role requires a blend of strategic thinking, crisis communication skills, and hands-on content creation to navigate Kenya’s volatile media landscape. You will collaborate closely with our editorial team to ensure consistent, bold, and timely storytelling.
Key Responsibilities
Content Strategy & Publishing (40%)
- Develop and maintain a weekly content calendar prioritizing in-house stories, campaigns, and breaking news.
- Curate, schedule, and publish posts using Meta Business Suite and native platform tools, optimizing for peak engagement times.
- Organize raw media files from the production team via the provided shared platforms.
Caption Writing & Brand Voice (30%)
- Draft provocative, audience-tailored captions that reflect Sema Ukweli’s tone: bold, urgent, and mobilizing.
- Collaborate with the editor to refine messaging for clarity, grammar, and impact.
- Optimize posts with hashtags (#SemaUkweli #JusticeForAll), tags, and calls to action.
Community Engagement & Crisis Response (20%)
- Monitor and respond to comments and DMs in real time, escalating sensitive issues to the Producer/Editor.
- Track and report weekly engagement metrics (likes, shares, reach) to refine content strategy.
- Lead rapid response for breaking news (e.g., police brutality, corruption exposés).
Team Collaboration & Reporting (10%)
- Liaise with activists and citizen journalists to source grassroots stories as well as monitor social media for any stories shared via the hotline.
- Deliver monthly performance reports with actionable insights for senior leadership.
Tools & Workflow
- Primary Tools: Meta Business Suite, X, TikTok, Repositories, Signal/WhatsApp.
- Approval Process: All posts require sign-off from the producer/editor to ensure legal and editorial compliance.
Qualifications
Required:
- 2+ years in social media management, preferably for human rights, journalism, or NGOs.
- Exceptional writing/editing skills with a knack for provocative storytelling.
- Proficiency in Meta Business Suite, analytics tools, and crisis communication.
- Deep understanding of Kenya’s socio-political landscape and digital risks.
